Project Overview

LARC Construction was appointed by Nevada Construction to undertake the groundworks for the redevelopment of the Plym Nero Rehabilitation Unit at Mount Gould Local Care Centre. This project aimed to enhance the facility’s capacity and infrastructure, ensuring improved rehabilitation services for patients.

Scope of Works

LARC Construction carried out a comprehensive range of groundworks, ensuring a structurally sound foundation for the new extensions and upgrades. Key tasks included:

• Excavations – Trenching and excavation for new foul water pop-ups and footings for three new extensions to the existing building.
• Steel Fabrication & Installation – Fabrication and placement of steel components for structural flooring, including:
  • Installation of over 700 dowel bars, drilled and fixed into the existing concrete.
  • Steel placement in three new extensions and a mezzanine floor.
• DPM & Waterproofing – Installation of water bars and waterproof concrete to ensure long-term durability.
• Concrete Works – Pouring and finishing concrete for foundations and floor slabs.
• Drainage Installation – Installation of surface water and foul drainage systems, including internal foul pop-ups.
• Footpaths – Installation of a new footpath around the building, complete with back edgers for structural integrity.
• Slabbing Laying – Laying slabs in the new courtyard, footpath, and front of the building to improve accessibility and aesthetics.

Challenges & Solutions

A key challenge of this project was working within a live, operational care centre, requiring a highly adaptive approach to minimise disruption to staff and residents. Our team implemented:

• Carefully phased scheduling to ensure essential services remained uninterrupted.
• Strict safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and workers.
• Close coordination with the care centre to manage logistics and access efficiently.

LARC Construction successfully delivered the groundworks package to the highest standards, supporting the timely redevelopment of the Plym Nero Rehabilitation Unit.
