LARC Construction was appointed to deliver the groundworks package for the Armada Way Public Realm Regeneration scheme in Plymouth. Spanning over 350 meters, the project aims to transform the central pedestrian corridor from Phoenix Fountain to the Sundial at New George Street. The scheme introduces innovative urban design features to enhance the city centre, creating a more engaging and accessible public space.

Scope of Works

LARC Construction’s groundworks package includes:

  • Demolition & Enabling Works – Removal of outdated infrastructure while maintaining access to active retail and commercial areas.
  • Earthworks & Excavation – Site preparation across multiple working zones for new features and landscaping.
  • Drainage & Utilities – Isolation, diversion, and installation of new services to support the upgraded public realm.
  • Paving & Hard Landscaping – Installation of high-quality paving materials to create pedestrian-friendly pathways.
  • Specialist Feature Installations – Foundations and structural support for new landscape features, including:
    • Rill and reed bed water features
    • Raised rain gardens
    • Custom-designed seating areas
    • Themed children’s play zones (pirate ship, water jets, rock play garden)
  • Heritage & Conservation Works – Careful construction around Drake’s Leat, a historic 16th-century watercourse integral to Plymouth’s early development.
  • Public Safety & Phased Delivery – Coordinated site management within a live city environment, minimizing disruption to businesses and pedestrians.
