Project Overview

LARC Construction was appointed by BAM Construction to carry out the groundworks for the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Plymouth City Centre. The project plays a crucial role in enhancing local healthcare infrastructure by providing state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities.

Scope of Works

Our scope of works included a comprehensive range of groundworks, ensuring a solid and structurally sound foundation for the new facility. Key tasks undertaken by LARC Construction included:

• Pile Mat Formation & Attendance – Preparation of pile mats and support during piling operations.
• Pile Cropping – Efficient removal of excess concrete to ensure piles were ready for construction.
• Excavations – Trenching and excavation for pad foundations, lift shafts, and other structural elements.
• Steel Fabrication & Installation – Fabrication and placement of steel components, including ring beams, pad reinforcements, lift shafts, and structural flooring.
• Concrete Works – Pouring and finishing concrete for foundations and the main floor slab.
• Drainage Installation – Laying deep surface water and foul drainage systems, including internal foul drainage pop-ups.
• Shuttering & Formwork – Creating formwork for lift shafts and recessed flooring.
• Engineered DPM Installation – Implementing extensive damp-proof membrane (DPM) details for enhanced durability.
• Substructure Block & Brickwork – Construction of block and brickwork elements to complete the substructure.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the key challenges of this project was executing complex groundwork in a city-centre location, requiring precise coordination and logistical planning. Our team worked closely with BAM Construction to ensure minimal disruption while maintaining efficiency and safety standards.
